I wanted something that would automatically shut down and prevent damage from overcharging. I wanted a charger that would quickly charge any size battery, even honking big golf car batteries. I also wanted a boost feature of at least 60A. Lastly, I didn't want to spend over $75.The B&D BC40EWB fits the bill. Although I've only had it a couple of weeks, it seems to work great on everything. It has a very slick charge routine. It somehow senses the optimum charge rate, charges, tapers off, tops off, and shuts down, all automatically. At first I thought the display was a gimmick, as I'm highly partial to a good analog volt meter and ammeter. Turns out I was mistaken. It really tells you what's going on in pretty plain English. This is a big advancement over the big heavy roll around 40 amp chargers, being much more efficient, light weight, portable, and smart. It works well on a 1000 watt generator, putting out a true 40+ amps. If you have a large battery bank, this is the charger you want. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful  good charger for the money, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Black & Decker BC40EWB 40 Amp High Frequency Battery Charger with Smart Interface (Automotive) great charger for the money. a bit more automatic than i'd prefer but it works well. purchased two of them to use in tandem and alls fine EXCEPT that the cooling fans make a lot of noise and vibrate. solved the problem by disassembling down to the fan and lubricating the fans bearings, not something the non-tech person would be comfortable doing. advise to B&D, invest in better quality fans.followup: i've now had these chargers for over 6 months and they work great. the fans on both units needed lubrication, one of them twice but that always fixes the problem. i've reconditioned many batteries that i had in the recycle pile including one of those small 12 volt batteries from my remote control gate opener. i paralled it with a larger battery (as the charger cannot work on small batteries alone) and after 24 hours on the recondition setting it worked like a new battery. simply amazing. i've recommended this charger to many friends. |
